Staying Healthy in Missouri

We built this page to provide our Missouri ACLS, PALS and BLS certification customers with a resource for staying healthy in the state of Missouri. The team at Rush ACLS understands that the best way to prevent cardiac arrests and heart attacks is to stay physically active and to maintain a healthy diet. Below, you will be able to find a variety of resources that will help the residents of Missouri stay active and healthy.

Healthy Eating

Establishing healthy eating habits is vital to maintaining a preventative lifestyle. It is important to shop smart and cut processed and unhealthy foods out of your diet. Here are some ways that you can eat healthy.

  • Drink skim or low fat milk to keep the fat out of your dairy.

  • Choose cheeses without much fat.

  • Chop up some veggies for the week. Have them on hand for snacks.

  • Order a vegetable side dish instead of the fries.

  • Eat foods that are high in protein and low in fat like beans, peas, fish and chicken.

You can also find a local farmer’s market. A farmer’s market is a fantastic way to shop healthy. You will also be supporting local farmers. Here is a website that can help you find a nearby farmer’s market. http://agebb.missouri.edu/fmktdir/

Active Living

Our Missouri PALS, BLS and ACLS certification customers would agree that eating healthy is only half the battle in living a preventative lifestyle. The other half is daily physical exercise.

Experts recommend at least 20-30 minutes of daily physical activity. Here are some ways to get out and get active in the state of Missouri.

Hiking

There are many outdoor activities to do in Missouri and one of the most popular is hiking. Hiking is fun for people of all ages and it’s a great way to explore the state’s natural beauty. There are many opportunities for exploring the scenic views in the state, whether you’re planning a day hike or a backpacking adventure for the weekend. You can bring your friends and family for more fun or if you want to explore on your own, that would be fine, too. Hiking outdoors will let you enjoy nice views but it is also a great cardio workout. Walk for hours and you will immediately feel your calories burning. When you hike, you will control and maintain your weight.

Rafting

If you want to have fun in the waters, you can always try rafting in Missouri. The state has rivers and streams that are waiting for you to paddle all your fears and worries away – from peaceful leisurely trips to adventurous rafting. Missouri does not lack waters where you can enjoy a great rafting trip. You will definitely have the best time with your family or friends so choose the best spot for rafting, wear your life jackets on and have fun paddling. Rafting is also a great form of exercise. An average person could burn about 350 calories when rafting for an hour.

For the Children

It is also important to find things to do with the whole family. Here are some great activities that you can do with the kids in Missouri.

Baby from Burning Car Saved by Off-duty Paramedic

An off-duty paramedic was having a meal at Papa Murphy’s when a commotion outside caused his instincts to switch to quick-thinking mode. Upon checking, he found out that a car caught fire in the parking lot. The mother, who went inside Papa Murphy’s to get ordered food, had left an infant inside the smoldering car. Brandy Baker used his skills to rescue the unconscious 10-month-old and revive him with hands-only CPR. The baby was already responsive when the EMS crew arrived. The mother is thankful for Baker’s paramedic instincts and would not have forgiven herself if the child died because it was left unattended. Meanwhile, the fire is under investigation.
