Staying Healthy in Mississippi

The team at Rush ACLS welcomes our Mississippi BLS, ACLS and PALS certification customers. We developed this section of our site to promote healthy living in the state of Mississippi. We fully realize the need to promote a healthy lifestyle while we provide emergency response training. Please read on to discover some ways that a resident of Mississippi can live a preventative lifestyle.

Active Living

In the state of Mississippi, the adult obesity rate is about 34.5%. This is the highest rate in the entire country. It is critical for the residents of Mississippi to get exercise and live an active lifestyle. Below are some tips on being physically active in the state of Mississippi.

Daily Routine

It is often difficult to carve out large chunks of time in order to exercise. This is especially true for busy people with full-time jobs and families. That doesn't mean that you cannot increase your daily physical activity, however.

  • Do sit-ups and push-ups during the commercials of your favorite TV shows.
  • Take a walk with the family every evening.
  • Walk your dog regularly.
  • Park your car at the far end of the parking lot to increase your walk.
  • Take stairs instead of the elevator or escalator.
  • Clean your car by hand instead of taking it to a car wash.

Hiking is a great way to get some fresh air and get some physical exercise. Hiking is an activity that can be scaled for every skill level. If you want to get started on your next hiking adventure in Mississippi, just click on the following link.

Healthy Diet

As our Mississippi ACLS, PALS and BLS certification customers understand, maintaining a healthy diet is one of the best ways to prevent heart attacks and cardiac arrests. As with daily exercise, changing your eating habits can be difficult.

Here are some ways that you can immediately improve your diet.

  • Eat unsalted nuts and seeds in small portions.
  • Have some eggs once a day.
  • Eat seafood twice per week.
  • Make sure that half of your intake of grains is whole grains.
  • Vary your fruit and vegetables. Picking different colors is an easy way to do this.

For the Children

The childhood obesity rate in Mississippi is around 40%. Obese children typically grow up to be obese adults so it is important for parents to help their children be physically active. Here are some Mississippi activities for the entire family.
