Staying Healthy in Michigan

The team at Rush ACLS developed this section of the website to give our Michigan ACLS, BLS and PALS certification customers a resource for leading a healthy life in the state of Michigan. We are committed to doing our part in battling cardiac arrests, heart attacks and other heart-related ailments. Please read on to discover some ways a resident of Michigan can stay healthy and active in the state of Michigan.

Active Lifestyle

The rate of diabetes in Michigan is about 10%. A physically active lifestyle is one of the keys to combating heart issues that are related to a high rate of diabetes. Experts recommend a minimum of 20-30 minutes of daily physical activity. Here are some activities that a resident of Michigan can do to stay active and healthy.

Change your Daily Routine

One of the most effective ways to increase your level of daily physical activity is to change the way you do some of the small things.

  • Do some sit-ups or push-ups during the commercials of your favorite television shows.
  • Regularly walk your dog.
  • Wash your car by hand instead of taking it to a car wash.
  • Take the stairs instead of the escalator or the elevator.
  • Go swimming with your children.

Hiking

Michigan is a beautiful state that is full of great hiking trails. A good place to start is to find a local state park. State parks will often have trails for every skill level. So, even if you are a beginner, you should be able to find something that will suit your ability. Healthy Diet

The Michigan rate of adult obesity is approximately 32% and the national average is about 27%. As our Michigan BLS, PALS and ACLS customers can confirm, maintaining a healthy diet is critical in preventing obesity.

Eating healthy is not easy, however, and certainly requires commitment and discipline. One of the best ways to help your eating habits is to start with your shopping habits. Do you shop at places that sell food with high-fat content and high sugar content with low nutritional value? If so, you may want to visit a local farmer's market.
