About Washington

Washington was the 42nd state to be added to the union, officially declaring statehood in 1889. The capital is Olympia, but the largest city in the state which presents the most interest to visitors from all over is Seattle. Nearly 60% of the residents of Washington live in this city as it is the center of business and transportation for the entire state.

Seattle attracts many visitors due to its large arts community that is internationally known. It is an urban environment rich with culture, the arts, and a sense of educated exploration.

The remaining parts of the state consist of very dense rain forests, mountain ranges and semi deserts. You can see the wonders of a rain forest one day and be in the mountains the next. Take a trip to the eastern part of Washington and see the semi-desert areas somewhere in between and you have literally seen it all.

For those who wish to get away from the big city and enjoy the outdoors, this state offers biking, golfing, fishing, and camping destinations. You can search for shells along the west coast or try your hand at fly fishing in a gorgeous mountain stream. The possibilities for nature lovers are endless.

For more adventurous travelers, there are opportunities to take hot air balloon rides or catch some waves while learning to windsurf. Paragliding is also a very popular experience in the Washington area.
