About Virginia

The State of Virginia is a very historic state. As the home of eight past U.S. presidents, it is now known as the "Mother of Presidents". With Richmond as the capital city, it is a southern state located on the eastern U.S. border. It is surrounded by Maryland, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee and North Carolina. Along the eastern coast lies the shoreline of the Atlantic Ocean.

Virginia Beach is the most popular destination for travelers from all over the world. There are miles and miles of beautiful beaches that offer a lot of relaxation and amazing views of the vast ocean. Along the ocean front a wide variety of hotels, motels and restaurants cater to local surfers as well as visitors.

The Guinness Book of World Records gives Virginia Beach the honor of having the longest pleasure beach in the world. It hosts the East Coast Surfing Championships every year as well as the North American Sand Soccer Championships.

There are more impressive titles that this state holds, such as the title for the oldest legislature in American history and more than one high rankings for having one of the most effective governments in the nation.

The northern area of Virginia is home to some very important government agencies. These agencies include the Pentagon and the CIA, which are very heavily secured and not open to tourists.

The main tourist attractions are the vast forests, which cover 65% of the state. Nature explores come here to see white tailed deer, black bear, and coyote roaming in their natural territories. Shenandoah National Park is the best place to watch wildlife in Virginia, since close to 40% of the park is designated to wildlife and is protected against hunting and poaching.
