Healthy Living in Utah

Active Living

2.7% of residents in Utah suffer from heart disease and 2.8% have had a heart attack. One of the best ways to prevent cardiovascular issues is to live a more physically active lifestyle. Here are some ways to be more active in the state of Utah.

Daily Routine

Making small changes in your daily routine can make a big impact on your overall health. There are many small things you can do throughout the day to increase your activity level. Also, you can be creative and come up with your own ways of being physically active.

  • Wash your car by hand instead of taking it to the car wash.
  • Do some push-ups, crunches or squats during commercials of your favorite TV shows.
  • Ride a bicycle to work or around the neighborhood.
  • Walk during your break at work.
  • Park your car far away from the entrance to increase your walk.

Hiking

Healthy Diet

Maintaining a healthy diet is just as important in the prevention of cardiovascular-related issues as physical exercise. A good diet can also greatly reduce the risk of obesity. Here are some healthy eating tips for you to follow.

  • Lower the amount of grain in your diet. If you are going to eat grain, make sure to eat whole grains.
  • Increase the amount of lean protein that you eat.
  • Serve dinner up on a smaller plate. You will eat less.
  • Avoid pre-packaged and processed foods.
