About Massachusetts
In 1788, Massachusetts became the 5th territory to ratify the U.S. constitution and became an official state. This region was the founder of the Bill of Rights which remains an important part of the American government to this day. It was also the famous location of the Boston Tea Party and the infamous Boston Massacre.
Rich with historical sentiment regarding the birth of the country as a whole, many travelers flock to this state every year to explore the many cultural and historical attractions. Museums, historic homes, and popular locations from American history dot the landscape and give families and history enthusiasts a lot to tour and look at.
Located on the northeastern border of the country, Massachusetts is bordered by New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. The eastern border of the state features coastline on the Atlantic Ocean. It is part of a region of the U.S. known as New England and is often referred to as a Commonwealth, rather than a state.
Two islands are a part of this state, namely Martha's Vineyards and Nantucket Island. They are located just south Cape Cod and are very popular vacation areas for people from all over the country. Cape Cod itself is a nice vacation spot thanks to the beautiful beaches that attract many visitors in the summer months.
Other than coastal activities such as swimming, boating, surfing, and fishing, there are also quite a few nature reserves and state parks that attract a lot of nature lovers who enjoy exploring the natural environment all over the country. Mount Greylock State Reservation in Lanesboro is an example of a spacious park that offers hiking trails through the mountains and camping adventures.
In the colder months, visitors flock to the popular ski resorts situated in the mountainous regions of the state.
