About Kansas
Located right in the heart of the United States, Kansas has long been regarded as one of the flattest states in the country. It is situated with Nebraska bordering to the north, Colorado to the west, Oklahoma to the south, and Missouri to the east and is intercepted by the Kansas River which gave the state its name. This are has officially been a state in 1861 and to this day remains one of the least populated and visited states in the union.
Since there are no beaches or five star resorts to draw in flocks of tourists, Kansas remains a dry, flat land known for growing corn and other valuable crops. The lifestyle lived by most people is rather mundane, even in larger city centers.
Yet, there are many people who do come through Kansas as they take road trips from one border of the country to the other or to bordering states. The attractions tend to be more novelty things people enjoy passing through, but which aren't necessarily worth a complete vacation stay.
For instance, travelers love visiting a sporting goods store in Kansas City called Cabela's. The catch is most visitors are not actually looking to shop at this store, but gaze admiringly at the 55,000 gallon aquarium and the attached deer museum.
Those who do come for vacation or longer stays tend to gravitate toward fishing and hunting experiences in one of the state's parks. These travelers tend to be more interested in camping and enjoying the natural landscape than they do the glitz and glamour presented in more premier vacation states.
