About Connecticut
Connecticut was one of the earliest states to be formed, officially declaring itself a part of the union in 1788. It remains one of the smallest states in the country, located on the eastern border surrounded by New York, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. The southern border is the meeting point for the Atlantic Ocean and several U.S. rivers, known as an estuary called Long Island Sound.
The Long Island Sound offers travelers beautiful beaches where they can relax in the comfort of top quality resorts and hotels. There are also many popular casinos where vacationers can gamble at any time of the day or night.
One attraction that is completely unique to Connecticut is the Mystic River Bascule Bridge in the city of Mystic. It actually rises up high in the air to allow oversized boats to pass on the river below, taking excited visitors and locals along with it.
Yet, there are also some more unusual attractions that cater to travelers with some specific interests. Those who enjoy Broadway shows come to the capital city of Hartford to see shows at the Tony awarded Hartford Stage Company as well as the well known Bushnell Memorial.
History and literature buffs enjoy taking tours of historic landmarks such as the legitimate homes of Harriet Beecher Stowe and Mark Twain. They also enjoy Nook Farm, where both of these 19th century writers collaborated and composed their timeless works of art.
There are also some educational cities worth visiting, such as Greenwich. Situated amongst many surrounding universities, it is home to some of the best museums for those interested in history.
