About California

California is one of the most popular states for tourists and vacationers because of the abundant beaches that lie on the Pacific Ocean. The diverse coastline stretches 110 miles along the western border of the United States and offers a variety of outdoor activities all year round.

Most people think of California and imagine huge beaches crowded with women in thongs and beach bums scouting the waves for their next surfing outtake. While this is exactly the scene to be found at many of the most popular beaches in the San Francisco bay area and the famous southern beaches near Hollywood, this state's coast offers a lot more for travelers who want to get away from the crowds.

There is something even more beautiful than beach babes to be found here: the natural coastal landscape and miles of sandy wilderness.

In Northern California, things aren't as sunny as travelers may expect. Sweaters and light jackets are required packing fare in these regions, but vacationers are well rewarded with some of the most inspiring natural scenery the state has to offer.

Activities here include exploring remote coves, bird watching, camping and hiking around the beaches, and kayaking. There are also some nice art communities for exploring architecture and Bodega Bay offers surfing adventures.

The Central Coast offers a wide array of amusements from horseback riding and blazing through the dunes on an ATV to relaxing with a loved one while enjoying some of the most romantic ocean views. This is the best region for visitors interested in whale watching, surfing, and other underwater adventures.

Southern California has been made famous by all of the big Hollywood stars and features some of the most popular (and crowded) beaches in Malibu and Venice Beach.
