About Alabama
Alabama officially became a state in 1819. While the current capital is Montgomery, it was not officially declared as such until 1846. During the first 27 years of statehood, there were 4 other capitals declared and changed until the current capital building was established.
Located on the top left corner of Florida in the Southeast region of the United States, there are three different natural aspects that draw visitors to Alabama today: the mountains, the rivers, and the Gulf Coast.
The mountain regions feature acre after acre of amazing forest land which offer outdoor adventure for hunters, birdwatchers, campers, and anyone who enjoys being in the open forest. Adventures in this region include scenic lakes with hiking trails, golf courses, and other outdoor amusements.
Many birdwatchers travel to the Audubon Bird Sanctuary on Dauphin Island where 160 acres are covered with trails, dunes, forest, and thousands of birds. Visitors also have access to the Gulf Coast beaches from Dauphin Island.
The historic River Heritage region caters to those who want to inject a little education into their vacation. With museums and scenic tours exploring both the Civil War and the era of the civil rights movement, there are a lot of educational adventures for tourists to learn from.
One of the main attractions is the Alabama Constitution Village in Huntsville. This amazing village offers a taste of history with guided tours that show visitors through a real working village, showing first hand how the people of Alabama lived from 1805-1819.
The southern tip of the state rests on the Gulf coast and offers immaculate white sandy beaches with five star waterfront accommodations available. The Gulf beach area also offers first class dining, fishing, golf, and plenty opportunity to relax and watch the waves roll in.
